I intend to do a night walk/experience on Friday 17th of May based from Lingy Hut. The idea would be to meet up at the Sands around 18.30 and drive to Swinside (Caldbeck). From the head of the valley it is about a 40 minutes hike up to Lingy Hut. We would be spending the night in Lingy hut so a little more gear than normal would be required. Lingy hut is dry and windproof. But there is no electric, showers or toilets, what there is, is a spade!. So the first thing you might want to consider bringing is some toilet paper.

A sleeping bag, a bit of extra food/water, maybe a couple of candles and a must, a head torch. (and extra batteries). I can provide a stove so we can make a hot brew. Once at the hut we can watch the sun go down there. There is a full moon on Saturday, so hopefully almost the same on the Friday. Once dark we can head out and up High Pike with luck under moonlight and headtorches. Most of the path is like a road and part of the Cumbria Way, there are no cliffs to fall off and navigation pretty straightforward. It is not my intention to do some long intricate night walk, just something straightforward and basic. Having spent some time on High Pike it would be back to Lingy hut and whatever food you have brought along.  We could grab some sleep and hopefully wake to watch the sunrise before heading back down.

I will only be doing this if the weather is good. I see no point going up there if it is raining or worse. The idea is to enjoy it. I have an alternative date in September, on Friday the 13th(sounds a bit ominous) if we have to cancel. There is plenty of time to give this some thought but its not a ‘turn up on the day’ event, I would like to know beforehand who is coming. Thats because if no one is up for it I won’t be going either.

Be there or be square.

Anyone who wishes to  register an interest (I Understand you may change your mind) would you please
