Pillar Rock (not quite)

The rain was the sort that penetrated everywhere,  no matter what we were wearing. We were all thoroughly wet through in just about every part of the body.  “Occasional showers and light drizzle” according to the forecast.  What a joke.  There were six of us set off for the corridor route and by the time we reached Scarth Gap the curse of Pillar struck again and we not only decided to forgo the advertised substitute – Haystacks – but even decided against a walk round the lake.  Pillar is a mountain that needs to be tackled on a day when good weather is pretty well guaranteed – it can be cold and unforgiving if not – and if this means going on a Saturday then so be it. When Lauren and I arrived back home the next door neighbour greeted us;  “been trying to rain all day”!
