B Walk
Barrow & Outerside
8 Miles Grade 2
Leader: Sandra Stockley
As I will be taking my 2 dogs can the A walkers please walk up the road towards Whinlatter and meet me at the start of the Force Crag mine road which we follow for 2 miles before crossing Coledale Beck and following the main path for a little while before turning off and making our own way up the fell by following the stream (no path) The aim is to climb the ridge up onto Eel Crag which is visible as we walk the mine road. This involves a little bit of scrambling between about 550 mtrs and 800 mtrs but nothing too difficult - just adding a bit of interest. From Eel Crag the descent is a scree into Coledale Hause where lunch beside the falls of Gasgale Gill is planned. Then a steady climb onto Grisedale Pike followed by the long descent via Sleet How. Distance is 8 mls and it will take 5.5 to 6

We head off out of Braithwaite passing the caravan park & campsite and on to Little Braithwaite. We join the path alongside Newlands Beck and stay on this path for a couple of miles, heading south, till we reach Rowling End Farm then turn east for Skelgill and on to join the Cumbria Way. We stay on the Cumbria Way all the way to Keswick passing through Portinscale on route. A lovely gentle walk, no hills and we will take it nice and slow. We will stop for lunch when we feel like it.
