A Walk
Beda Fell
7 Miles Grade 2
Leader: Pete Rutland
Walking from Cargo not Stainton Road as too muddy; parking along Kings` Garth; however it looks as though even the less muddy route might be frozen so stick will still be very useful. A nice leisurely stroll by the lovey full peaceful Eden for most of the way admiring the many birds and perhaps an otter and following the private Castletown Estate path to the boat house. A bit of road but not too much and back to Rockcliffe.Tea? Perhaps Stobbarts? Open till 3pm. or…suggestions?
Hope to see you.

The walk in Moffat has been postponed as Phil who was leading the walk is unable to do so. I have not been able to recci the walk at such short notice consequently this is the alternative I will be leading in Phils absence.
Having been out today (Wednesday) on the high fells around my proposed walk for Sunday I have had a change of heart about the walk. Although the conditions are spectacular, if they continue over the weekend I think the steep descent down Red Screes will be difficult at best and dangerous at worst. I think it best to let people know now to avoid disappointment on Sunday. I will do this walk in the future.
Consequently the walk will start from Martindale church where we will head off up Beda Fell. This is a long steady climb up to Beda Knott. If the snow is still on the ground there will be great views and hopefully plenty of sightings of deer which look splendid against the snow. If all is good we can take in Angle Tarn Pikes without much extra effort.
Then around via Angle Tarn which was almost frozen over today (Wednesday). We drop down behind Heck Crag. This requires a little care but is not that long. I would recommend some form of spiked footwear just in case. We then have a longish walk back down the valley. Lunch as and when we like. Tea and buns in Pooley Bridge.
No scrambling on this walk. A nice steady climb with nothing very steep for the main. A slightly steep but short descent with protection of the intake wall. Always a scenic valley.
Be there or be square. Pete. 07534358550.

We will park at Low Gelt and pick up the old road to Brampton and the cycle path that runs parallel to the A69, after a walk round the outskirts of Brampton we will pick up the old railway line to Brampton Station.
After this we will head for Talkin Tarn, past the golf club and over the level crossing, we will then make a slight diversion and head off into Gelt Woods and onto Middle Gelt Bridge which would be a convenient lunch stop due to a bench and bridge abutements to rest our legs.
After lunch we will head for a pleasant walk beside the river and onto the quarry and back to the cars.
Refreshments will be taken at the Hayton Farm Shop.
